MetaPos

The MetaPos project considered innovative ways of matching appropriate position determining technology (PDT) to different location services.

Developers of location services have a broad choice of PDTs with diverse characteristics and different strengths and weaknesses. For example GPS is high accuracy, but power hungry and has poor coverage in dense urban and indoor locations. WiFi positioning has lower accuracy and limited coverage away from built up areas, but works well in exactly the locations where GPS fails. There are many emerging positioning technologies that can be added to this mix. MetaPos fused GPS, WiFi and Cell fingerprinting to create a service that would select the most appropriate PDT for given location service.

The MetaPos project is now over, but has soft launched beta life logging service called The First Location Bank designed to securely track, store and manage everywhere you've been, forever.
